College football: Messingham lands at Montana State

BOZEMAN, Mont. — Courtney Messingham first stepped onto the field at Bobcat Stadium on Nov. 1, 1986, when Northern Iowa paid a visit to Montana State. Messingham, then a freshman defensive back at UNI, has had better days since.

“I think they threw about six touchdown passes on us,” he said. “It was not my greatest memory of college football.”

The Bobcats won, 46-25. Messingham later became a quarterback and a student of offense, and went on to graduate from Northern Iowa with a bachelor of technology degree in 1990 and a graduate degree in business administration in 1992.
