With 5 starters back, Huskies look to make noise in MAC West

DeKALB – The Northern Illinois women’s basketball team had a magic number this offseason.

Entering their first full offseason under second-year coach Lisa Carlsen, the Huskies were tasked with making 30,000 shots over the summer.

With the Huskies returning all five starters from last season, they have their eyes on getting out of the Mid-American Conference basement and provide a level of consistency when the season opens at Loyola at 5 p.m. Friday in Chicago.

“I think sometimes you have to decide and dictate how much work it takes to be really good at this level and that can’t happen just at practice and it can’t happen during the season,” Carlsen said about the 30,000 makes during the offseason.
