DEKALB – The Northern Illinois University women’s soccer team took on the University of Illinois at Chicago for their season opener on Friday night, ending in a scoreless draw.
The Huskies spent a majority of the first half on their heels, with UIC controlling the ball on the Huskies side of the field more often than not. However, the Huskies defense was stingy, muddying up passing lanes and challenging any Flames player who touched the ball. At the half, Huskies coach John Ross said he challenged his team to improve on defense – and the players responded.
“We had fight in the first half,” Ross said.
