Kristopher Ortega, redshirt freshman men’s tennis player, was named Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week Thursday, according to NIU Media Services.
Ortega won both his singles matches over the weekend to help the Huskies start 2-0 in conference. At the No., he beat Tiago Lourenco of Binghamton 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. He then topped Nemanja Guzina of Ball State 6-6, 6-3 to help the Huskies complete a weekend sweep.
The redshirt freshman improved his record to 18-9 on the year and 11-4 in double matches.
This is Ortega’s first Player of the Week award and the second Huskie player to achieve the award this season.
