OL Sharping named to Freshman All-America team

Northern Illinois offensive lineman Max Scharping became the first Huskie to be named a Freshman All-American since 2007.

The 6-foot-6, 311-pound Sharping started every game for the Huskies and was honored by the Football Writer's Association of America (FWAA) on Monday.

“I’m very happy for Max to receive this recognition, he’s come a long way and has a bright future ahead of him,” Northern Illinois coach Rod Carey said. “I look forward to this being the first of many awards like this for him."

Scharping became the first Huskie to make a Freshman All-American team since 2007, when safety Alex Kube was honored by both the FWAA and Sporting News.
