Northern Illinois wrestler Shawn Scott is finding himself in uncharted territory for the second consecutive season.
A year after making his first trip to the NCAA Championships, the redshirt junior wrestled his way to the second day of the 2016 NCAA Championships at Madison Square Garden in New York.
"It was important to me just making the second day, it's a confidence-boost," Scott said.
Last year, Scott went home after losing his first two matches in the opening day.
Scott won his first two matches on Thursday, edging John Bolich (Lehigh) 2-1 and No. 9 seed Reuben Franklin (Cal State Bakersfield) 8-5 before falling 3-2 to No.
