DeKALB – There's smart and then there's NASA smart.
Northern Illinois senior midfielder Haley Cummings is the latter and she is preparing for the 2016 women's soccer season after recently finishing up her second internship with the famed government agency that included a 16-week stint at Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California.
She also served at Ames Research Center for 10 weeks during the summer of her freshman year.
"There's no words for how scary it was (on the first day)," she said. "I mean, it's NASA. They're the smartest people in the U.S. It was very intimidating.
