NIU softball: Huskies riding 14-game winning streak for first time since 1989

DeKALB – To call the Northern Illinois softball team red-hot is an understatement.

The Huskies are riding their longest winning streak in nearly 20 years heading into a non-conference doubleheader at Loyola (Chicago) on Wednesday afternoon.

"We're just playing well in all three phases," Northern Illinois coach Christina Sutcliffe said. "We're pitching well and our offense is putting up numbers and our defense is doing enough to help us win and that's what you need."

The Huskies (22-7 overall, 3-0 in MAC West) have won 14 consecutive games for the first time since 1989 – including opening up the conference play with a three-game sweep at Bowling Green.
