The Northern Illinois softball team jumped out to a big lead early and cruised to an 8-0 victory at Bowling Green in five innings in the Mid-American Conference opener on Friday.
The Huskies (20-7 overall, 1-0 in MAC West) scored four runs in the first inning and four more in the fourth.
“The hitters came in with a game plan and they stuck to it,” Northern Illinois coach Christina Sutcliffe said. “They were able and got on the starting pitcher really early."
Kayti Grable went 3 for 3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs for the Huskies and pitcher Alex Frenz threw a three-hit shutout with two strikeouts.
