“My heart is absolutely broken for [Hare],” Carey said.
Physicians said the injury may require surgery, which will end Hare’s season. Hare and his family are seeking a second opinion, Carey said.
The injury occurred in the third quarter of Saturday’s game against University of South Florida when a defensive lineman rolled over Hare’s ankle during a tackle.
Carey said no malicious intent was shown by the South Florida player and it was a play that led to an unfortunate injury.
