DeKALB – Whenever the Northern Illinois football team crept closer, San Diego State star running back Donnel Pumphrey made sure the Aztecs had plenty of cushion on the scoreboard.
Pumphrey had his second consecutive game with 200-plus rushing yards and came up with two critical second half touchdowns and the Aztecs held off the Huskies 42-28 on Saturday afternoon in Northern Illinois' home opener at Huskie Stadium.
Pumphrey, who is the all-time leading rusher in San Diego State history after rushing for 281 yards against California last week, finished with 23 carries for 220 yards and three touchdowns.
