NIU baseball: Sims shines in victory to help Huskies split doubleheader against Miami

DeKALB – Donovan Sims had a career day on the mound for the Northern Illinois baseball team and helped the Huskies split their doubleheader against Miami (Ohio) on Sunday afternoon.

The RedHawks won a low-scoring 2-0 contest in Game 1 before Sims shut down the RedHawks in a 6-1 victory for the Huskies in the second game.

The Huskies were shut out in the first game of the doubleheader after recording only three hits against Miami pitcher Cole Gnetz, who threw nine innings with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Northern Illinois (7-20 overall, 3-3 in MAC West) pitcher Ryan Olson joined Gnetz in throwing a complete game himself, but the Redhawks were able to have more success at the plate.
