DeKALB – The Northern Illinois baseball team rallied twice to beat Ball State, winning the first game of the three-game series, 14-8, Thursday at Ralph McKinzie Field.
Huskies starting pitcher Will Anderson retired the first three Ball State batters he faced. The Huskies (23-29) then gave him an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Anderson found himself in some trouble after allowing the Cardinals (31-23) five runs in the top of the second inning.
Anderson recovered after the inning and allowed three runs in the next 22/3 innings before being replaced by relief pitcher Aaron Rumfield with two outs in the fifth.
