Local roundup: NIU baseball wins; Marshall comes up big for Hiawatha

The Northern Illinois baseball team opened a three-game home series against Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan with a 9-6 win on Friday.

The Huskies (8-21 overall, 4-3 MAC) outhit the Chippewas (6-25, 1-3) 12-11 in the contest.

Freshman starter William Anderson struck out a career-high eight batters in six innings to earn his third win of the season while Ryne Blanton picked up his fourth save. Brian Sisler went 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, two RBIs and a run.

NIU and CMU will close the series tomorrow in a doubleheader at Ralph McKinzie Field, starting at noon.
