Hockey falls to Western Michigan in first division one match

DeKALB — The Huskies started hot but couldn’t keep the momentum going in their 3-2 loss to Western Michigan University.

NIU jumped out of the gates, getting first period goals from freshmen forwards Nick Gonzalez and Rodahn Evans to get a 2-0 lead. Sophomore goaltender Chad Dodero also played well for the Huskies, killing off multiple Bronco power-plays in the first period, including a short 5-on-3 disadvantage.

Unfortunately, the Huskies couldn’t capitalize on their power-play opportunities for the remainder of the game, including three straight to start the second period. NIU also found themselves in the penalty box multiple times in the second and third periods.
