Area roundup: NIU men's hoops opens MAC play with close loss at Miami (Ohio)

In a game that didn't see a double-digit lead, the Northern Illinois men's basketball team missed a late 3-pointer and lost, 69-67, on the road at Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday night to open up Mid-American Conference play.

Huskies freshman guard Eugene German had a team-high 13 points on 5 for 7 shooting but missed a three with eight seconds left in the game that would have given Northern Illinois (8-6 overall, 0-1 in MAC West) the lead.

German was one of five players in double figures for the Huskies. Senior wing Aaric Armstead had 13 points and six rebounds, sophomore wing Levi Bradley had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds and Marin Maric and Dontel Highsmith each added 10 points in the loss.
