Former Northern Illinois baseball player Justin Fletcher signed a contract with the Normal Cornbelters of the Frontier League on Friday, the university announced on Monday.
Fletcher was a three-year starter for the Huskies, starting all 56 games in center field and his .301 batting average was the second best for the Huskies. He became the fourth NIU player to sign with a professional team in the last four years and is the first from the 2016 season to do so.
The Cornbelters had a record of 23-28 in the first half of the season in the Frontier League, which is an Independent League franchise.
