After a summer of the worst that college football has to offer, it seems like a good time to note the best of it, at least here in Texas.
Best coach -- Gary Patterson, TCU. He's built the most successful program in Texas, prompting the chicken-or-the-egg question about college football in this state: Is TCU so good because Texas and Texas A&M aren't, or is Gary basically the reason the big boys have struggled of late? Probably elements of both. He doesn't have the resources to attract the four- and five-star types consistently. Should Herman or Jimbo -- or, heaven forbid, (ital)both(no ital) -- live up to their billing, it could get tough for the little powerhouse in Fort Worth.
