Recapping UNT's 2016 class: Mean Green lean heavily on JC players; skill position signees hold promise

North Texas signed five junior college players to bolster a defense that finished 121st nationally with an average of 41.3 points allowed per game. Three of those players came from Arizona Western College, including William Johnson, the top-rated player in UNT's class. The website 247Sports ranked Johnson as the third-best junior college outside linebacker in the nation.

UNT signed several talented high school skill position players who could develop into key weapons for the Mean Green down the line. Arlington Martin running back Nic Smith was one of the most productive players in Arlington ISD history and was highly recruited.
