DENTON -- Brandon Garner is well aware of the perception most North Texas observers have of Troy Reffett.
UNT's defensive coordinator isn't exactly all smiles and laughs on the sideline, or anywhere else outsiders might catch a glimpse of him.
"If you just watch him coach, you would think he is the meanest guy in the world," Garner, UNT's starting middle linebacker said.
That's far from the truth according to Garner (Mansfield Timberview) and UNT players. They describe Reffett as intense and aggressive but also caring and personable. The Mean Green are beginning to adopt Reffett's best traits heading into their season opener against Lamar on Saturday at Apogee Stadium.
