If Lone Star college football is going to be a source of pride again, Texas teams need to beat up on more than just each other

Not only is second-ranked Clemson good, it's been historically good on the road under Dabo Swinney, which will be problematic for Texas A&M. But that's also the good news.

Because if Jimbo Fisher could pull off an upset Saturday at Kyle Field, he would:

- Vault the Aggies into the national conversation.

- Accelerate the rebuild exponentially.

- Justify at least a week of his annual salary.

- Give the state of Texas something to brag about regarding the state religion.

The beauty of games like this one, as the rest of the nation has learned, is it pumps excitement into the fan base and plumps up preliminary arguments for the College Football Playoff.
