AUSTIN, Texas — North Carolina's Madison Wiltrout finished third in the women's javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Texas's Mike A. Myers Stadium on Friday. Despite weather delays, Wiltrout (Connellsville, Pa.) remained focused and took full advantage of the sunny skies to throw 181-1 (55.21 meters) for first-team All-America honors.
Wiltrout's third-place finish is not only the best by a Tar Heel women's javelin thrower since 1992 (Lynda Lipson, 2nd), but her performance also marks Carolina's highest NCAA Outdoor finish in a women's event since Laura Gerraughty in the shot put (1st) and Sheena Gordon in the high jump (2nd) in 2006.
