CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – For the second year in a row and the 29th time in program history, the UNC women's basketball team is dancing into the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels are seeded fifth in the Greensboro Region and will take on Stephen F. Austin Saturday in a first-round game in Tucson, Ariz.
UNC, 23-6 and ranked No. 18 in both the AP and coaches' national polls, didn't have to wait long to learn its fate as the Tar Heels' at-large bid was announced just minutes into the ESPN broadcast on Sunday evening. The Tar Heels, gathered with fans at the Top of the Hill restaurant in downtown Chapel Hill, erupted into cheers as their name was called.
