Vance Honeycutt, the Tar Heels star outfielder who is in the midst of an historic junior season, was named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award. The most coveted honor in all of college baseball—which acknowledges the best player in the country—released the 25 players in contention on Monday. Vance Honeycutt is amongst a handful top MLB prospects and the best the sport has to offer. Finalists for this prestigious award will be announced on June 5th, with the winner revealed on June 22nd.
Honeycutt, who is hitting .319 with 22 HR’s for the Diamond Heels, is the only player in Division I posting a 20-20 (HR’s-Stolen Bases) season to date.
