USA Field Hockey Team Picks Up Another Impressive Win

The U.S. earned another impressive win in Olympic women’s field hockey competition Monday, defeating Australia 2-1 in Group B play. Fifth-ranked Team USA is now 2-0 in Rio with wins over the No. 2 (Argentina) and No. 3 (Australia) teams in the world rankings.

UNC alum Caitlin “Poppy” Van Sickle scored the second goal in the win over Australia and goalkeeper Jackie Briggs played another outstanding defensive game.

“These have been great results for the USA,” said UNC coach Karen Shelton, a former Olympian who is now watching five of her players compete. “The team looks consistent and together.
