UNC could not find a way to get any real separation against Stanford in Chapel Hill Saturday afternoon, leaving the door open for the Cardinal to make a shot with one second left to send Carolina to a 72-71 loss.
The game was back and forth virtually the whole way. UNC held a narrow one-point lead at the half, and the lead changed 14 times. The game was tied 12 times. Even though the Tar Heels led for nearly 25 minutes of the game, they fell short when it mattered most.
Carolina got surprising production from Ven-Allen Lubin and Jalen Washington down low, accounting for 21 points between them.
