UNC’s season ends in the Sweet 16 with a 47-38 loss to Duke

An excellent season for UNC women’s basketball came to a disappointing end in Birmingham, as the Heels lost a rubber match to their rival Duke in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. Typical of what’s been an incredibly low-scoring series since Courtney Banghart and Kara Lawson took the helms of their respective teams, the final score of this one was 47-38.

The Heels got out to a perfect start, finding open looks under the basket while suffocating the Blue Devils en route to an 11-0 lead. That wasn’t going to last, though, and in the back half of the first quarter, Duke responded with a 9-2 run of their own to bring the game back to a competitive margin.
