UNC's Nobel Prize winner celebrates Turkish roots

When Aziz Sancar’s wife woke him up at 5 a.m. on Oct. 7, he feared something terrible had happened to one of his family members in Turkey.But the call was from Stockholm, the home of the Nobel Center. Sancar had just been awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work on DNA repair.Sancar, a professor of biophysics and biochemistry at UNC, has a deep affection for the UNC community.
