Carmichael Arena hosts one of its most highly anticipated games in many years tonight, as the legendary Dawn Staley and her #1-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks come to Chapel Hill to take on Courtney Banghart and the UNC Tar Heels as part of the inaugural ACC-SEC Women’s Basketball Challenge. The buzz around this game is palpable, with UNC publicizing in recent days how they had to apportion student tickets by lottery (a measure usually reserved for in-conference men’s games), the first appearance of UNC’s pregame Tip-Off Club at Carmichael, and, ultimately, a sold-out crowd that I’ll be interested to see the makeup of.
