Former UNC Women’s Basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell was named as one of several coaches to be honored at the Naismith Hall of Fame Coaches Circle.
Sylvia Hatchell was the head coach of the UNC Women’s Basketball program for 33 years from 1986 until 2019. She led the Tar Heels to their only National Championship victory ever, defeating Louisiana Tech in 1994 on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by freshman Charlotte Smith.
She had a luxurious coaching career, recording a career record of 1023-405 for a 71.6 winning percentage. Hatchell was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2013.
