Maybe it was the cold, maybe it was another off weekend, maybe it was their first home game in over a month, but Saturday’s game against Wake Forest wasn’t as clean as the Tar Heels would have hoped. Coming into the game, the Demon Deacons had given up 46 points to Cal, and the Tar Heel offense had been gaining some strong footing in dominant wins over Virginia and Florida State. Surely it was going to be a cakewalk, right?
Of course not. Instead, the Deacs made the Tar Heels sweat on a chilly Chapel Hill evening. Still, Omarion Hampton was Omarion Hampton and the defense showed something again, as the Tar Heels achieved bowl eligibility for the sixth straight season.
