A combination of rust and foul trouble seemed to be dooming the Tar Heels early on in their fight against a feisty fourteen seed in Oregon State.
While Carolina had gotten out to a 15-7 lead at one point, they were having trouble making shots from behind the arc. They went a combined 1-8 from long distance in the first half, and a lead that had been built on the solid play of Maria Gakdeng slowly turned into a deficit before the Tar Heels were able to rally for a small lead by the end of the half.
