When Carolina was able to turn the Bell Tower Blue on Saturday after their win over Wake Forest, they were also able to celebrate something that had becoming increasingly rare during the Mack Brown 2.0 era: a November win.
If you take out games against the likes of Mercer and Campbell—and the COVID season of 2020 because look, everything was weird—the Tar Heels are just 5-9 in the month of November during Mack Brown 2.0. On top of that, for the last three seasons, they’ve lost the last two games of the season against ACC opponents. Those losses completely changed the tenor of promising seasons, as no one really gave Carolina a chance against Clemson in 2022, and really soured everyone on how Drake Maye’s UNC career ended last season.
