CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina athletic department will honor the 2015 Women's World Cup champion Tar Heels at halftime of the UNC-Duke football game Saturday at Kenan Stadium.
UNC honorees who played on the winning USA side in Canada this past summer included defender Lori Chalupny, defender Meghan Klingenberg, midfielder Tobin Heath, goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris, defender Whitney Engen and midfielder Heather O'Reilly. The USA won its first World Cup title since 1999, going undefeated throughout the tournament and beating Japan 5-2 in the World Cup final in Vancouver.
UNC head coach Anson Dorrance will also be present for the presentation as will Tar Heel senior midfielder Katie Bowen who was a starter for New Zealand at the World Cup.
