UNC Soccer: The Tar Heels open 2024 with their first win of the post-Dorrance era

Ladles, gentlespoons, after a long summer (aren’t they all?), UNC sports are officially back in session. The Tar Heel women’s soccer team, still somewhat in the shadow of the news of legendary coach Anson Dorrance’s retirement, have begun their season and begun it on the right note, with a 2-1 victory at Denver University that wasn’t really as close as the score suggests. The #8 Tar Heels outshot the Pioneers 19-4 and dominated the ball for basically the whole game for interim coach Damon Nahas’ first victory.

UNC’s two goalscorers for the game were Tessa Dellarose and Bella Sember, both of whom were key reserves last year who were going to have to take the leap into being among this team’s stars for the Heels to reach the heights they’re hoping for.
