A week after their compatriots on the women’s side got their season started on the road with a semi-shaky win against an opponent from a non-power conference, UNC’s men’s soccer team followed suit with a nervy 1-0 victory at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Martin Vician’s converted penalty in the 71st minute after he was taken down in the box proved to be the difference in a game where neither team was really able to threaten the opposing goal.
At the game’s outset, it was the Blazers that looked more like a top-10 team in the country playing against a team picked last in their conference.
