The tradition of former North Carolina Tar Heels women’s soccer players making the roster for the US Women’s national team continued this year at the Paris Olympics, and now they have a chance to continue another tradition: winning a gold medal as part of the USWNT.
On Tuesday, the USWNT defeated Germany 1-0 in extra time to advance to the gold medal match against Brazil on Saturday.
Tar Heels Crystal Dunn and Emily Fox were among the 18-player roster selected by USWNT coach Emma Hayes for this year’s Olympics, and both have featured regularly as the team has gone unbeaten on their way to the final.
