UNC’s pattern early on this season of slow starts were present again Friday evening in Chapel Hill, but the Tar Heels more than made up for it in a huge second half to easily pick up a 107-55 win over American at the Smith Center.
Carolina held a nine-point advantage at halftime after the Eagles shot 51% from the field in the first 20 minutes. It didn’t help matters that UNC went all first half and nearly half of the second half without making a three-pointer. Once they got going, though, they really got going. American had a five-point lead at 18-13 and the Heels out-scored them 94-37 from that point on.
