Despite coming up empty-handed in the recent Zion Williamson sweepstakes, the North Carolina Tar Heels may have one more opportunity at snagging an elite big man in the class of 2018.
On Wednesday, North Carolina head coach Roy Williams extended a scholarship offer to five-star power forward E.J. Montgomery, who decommitted from Auburn in September.
Since reopening his recruitment, Montgomery has been getting a lot of attention and soaring up recruiting boards. Formerly a fringe five-star recruit, he’s currently ranked sixth in 247Sports’ Top247, and No. 12 in the 247Sports Composite.
And he’s hearing from a number of big name programs including Clemson, Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina, all of whom currently appear to be in a good position to land the talented prospect.
