Last season, the North Carolina Tar Heels were eliminated from the College Cup during the semifinal round versus Indiana. UNC finished the season 17-4-1, first in the Coastal Division, second overall in the regular season standings, and the last ACC team remaining in the College Cup.
In the past decade, Carolina has the most College Cup appearances (six) and NCAA victories (23) in the nation during that period.
The Tar Heels return their second-leading scorer from last season, forward Jelani Pieters, along with all three goalkeepers who appeared in net in 2017, Alec Smir, Drew Romig, and James Pyle.
