The U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Coaches Association honored members of the North Carolina coaching staff when it held its annual luncheon on Friday.
UNC head coach Joe Breschi was named the National Coach of the Year after leading the Tar Heels to their first NCAA championship title since 1991. The unseeded Tar Heels knocked off top-seeded and heavily favored Maryland in overtime by a score of 14-13.
UNC offensive coordinator David Metzbower was awarded as the Division I Assistant Coach of the Year. Metzbower had more than 25 years of coaching experience when he joined the UNC staff in 2014 under Breschi.
