UNC snatched victory from the jaws of defeat when a game-winning field goal attempt from Minnesota from 47 yards out sailed wide, winning their season-opener 19-17. The start of UNC’s first game of the season was delayed by an hour due to storms in Minnesota and that was just the start of what would be kind of a wild night for the Tar Heels.
Carolina’s offense looked like it was running through quicksand as they got off to a slow start in the first half. Quarterback Max Johnson had just 28 passing yards before halftime even though his three-yard rush was the only score for the Tar Heels in the first half.
