There were some things working against UNC on Saturday night, historical-trend-wise. A primetime game, against an opponent who was a double-digit underdog, amidst a small winning streak that had generated a lot of positive press for the team — all of that has usually been a recipe for Mack Brown’s teams to fall flat on their faces. And indeed, their play came noticeably back down to Earth, but the Tar Heels managed to pull out a win against Wake Forest to keep their streak alive and reach bowl game eligibility. I’m not the only person to note that there were some serious warts in this one, though.
