North Carolina offensive lineman Jonah Melton has retired from the game of football due to a nagging knee injury, a team spokesperson told Inside Carolina on Tuesday.
According to Inside Carolina, Melton plans to stay enrolled at the school to finish his degree and become a strength coach after he graduates. He’ll begin working as a student assistant with UNC strength and conditioning coach Brian Hess.
Melton joined the Tar Heels in 2017 as a 4-star prospect out of Eastern Alamance in Mebane, North Carolina. At 6-feet-4-inches and 295 pounds, Melton was the No. 144 prospect in the class, as well as top-10 at his position and second in the state of North Carolina.
