The North Carolina Tar Heels were hoping to add another Maye to the University in the form of quarterback recruit Drake Maye.
The 2021 four-star quarterback out of Myers Park High School in North Carolina is the younger brother of former UNC Basketball stand out Luke Maye and the son of former quarterback stand out Mark Maye. With two connections to the University, many thought the youngest Maye would end up at UNC and be the quarterback of the future.
But on Wednesday, things hit a road block for those chances.
Maye announced via Twitter on Wednesday night that he was committing to Alabama, joining the Crimson Tide’s 2021 recruiting class:
We say “road block” because this is college football recruiting and literally anything can happen between now and National Signing Day for 2021.
