National Signing Day didn’t begin until Wednesday morning, but the UNC football program got off to an early start on Tuesday night when it got a commitment from 3-star defensive tackle Wisdom Asaboro. He did so via his head coach’s personal Twitter account just hours before the early signing period began.
Asaboro, a 6-foot-8, 280-pound Nigerian-born athlete, picked North Carolina over a list of finalists that included Auburn, Oregon, Penn State, and Virginia. In addition to the five schools on his list, he had offers from Duke, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech.
A senior at Covenant Day School in Matthews, North Carolina, Asaboro visited just two schools during the recruiting process; North Carolina and Virginia.
