Despite blowing a double-digit lead in the first half, the UNC Football program was able to hold off a feisty 2-0 Virginia team to end a four-game losing streak to the Cavaliers and earn their first Atlantic Coast Conference win of the year on Saturday.
The Tar Heels jumped out to a 24-7 lead at the 10:47 mark of the second quarter. But Virginia mounted a comeback due to some sloppy play on defense, questionable coaching decisions and a Sam Howell interception as the Cavaliers led 28-24 at the break.
The Cavaliers had all the momentum in the game as quarterback Brennan Armstrong was red-hot throwing for over 300 yards and four touchdowns in the first half.
