For the second time in as many tries, the No. 10 North Carolina football team fell short of setting a new school record with 12 wins this season.
Behind a record-setting performance on the ground, No. 17 Baylor sprinted past UNC 49-38 during Tuesday’s Russell Athletic Bowl at Citrus Bowl Stadium, denying the Tar Heels of their winningest season in program history.
UNC (11-3) struck first when Marquise Williams connected with Brandon Fritts for a 9-yard touchdown about halfway through the first quarter. But the Tar Heels’ 7-0 edge marked their only lead of the game, as Baylor (10-3) scored touchdowns on four straight possessions to seize a 28-17 lead at halftime.
