At the risk of revealing how old I am, Mack Brown became the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels when I was just two years old. His tenure in Chapel Hill was mostly a success when considering the fact that he had to follow up Dick Crum, who ended his Carolina career with a 72-41-3 record, and also led the Heels to an ACC championship. Brown left the Tar Heels in 1997 with a 69-46-1 record, three bowl wins (he left the program and didn’t coach the 1998 Gator Bowl), and three 10-win seasons. For many Carolina fans, things went as well as one could’ve hoped for before Brown decided to take his ball and run to Texas.
