CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina field hockey team equaled its highest offensive output of the season and also notched its first shutout of the fall on Sunday afternoon, beating VCU 6-0 at Francis E. Henry Stadium. The third-ranked Tar Heels improved to 5-1 with their second home-field win of the weekend. The visiting Rams fell to 1-4.
“I’m very happy with the shutout,” UNC coach Karen Shelton said. “The first shutout of the season was significant for our team.”
The Tar Heels scored the only goal they’d need nine minutes into the game, when freshman Eef Andriessen drove to the right baseline then sent a pass out to classmate Megan DuVernois, who scored her second goal of the season.
